They use Quick Books and they kept it on one guys PC for years, we finely talked them into putting it on the server so it is backed up. But now when they access the file they get an error that says he cant access the file in multi user mode when others are accessing it. Everyone else accessing the QB file has to get out, then he access it , and everyone else can get back into it. All the other users (3 total) have the settings on their QB App to multi-user mode???..

Thanks in advanced

You need to install the Quickbooks database manger on the server (does not use a license).
And set it to monitor the folder where the company file lives.

Then do installs on all the PC's.

OPen the file on a pc. If another user then wants to open it, the other user must switch into multiuser mode.

Basically unless you buy the 5 user or more enterprise version, you have to use it this way.

If only 1 person is using it, then fine. Once someone else wants to use it then they have to request that user to switch to multi user.

The user then has to host the file for the others to access it.

This is by design.

Had the same issue for a client recently.

There is an option to host the file, this is what needs to be done.

The file will still live on the server though
