I purchased Veem 2 core database backup and recovery. I was going to put it on the hosted server (4 vm's) and have it stored on tape and another server. I need to backup the 4 vm's that i have. Should I put veeam on another server, put it on the host server, and it's asking for SQL, should i just use sql express? What are the best practices?

Hi,

I was going to put it on the hosted server (4 vm's) and have it stored on tape and another server.
This works, however you should remember that backup process might be very processor intensive and thus affect your production.
What are the best practices?
No best practices there. Just common recomendations:
If your virtual environment is small, with low consolidation ratio and host's resources mostly unused during the night, then it’s better to install Veeam on a VM.
If your virtual environment is large, production servers are heavily loaded and services should be available 24/7, install Veeam on a physical machine

Best practice is the 3-2-1 backup rule. Keep your backups far away from the original VMs (offsite).
