Windows 8.1 - SkyDrive Sync Issues

My desktop PC has Windows 8. The green or grey dots reassure me what's going on. My Surface Pro 2 has Windows 8.1 which has no indication of what's going on regarding sync status. When I got the Surface Pro 2 I just signed into my Microsoft account and set it to sync all files in my SkyDrive account. It's only when I tried to open a particular file on the SP2 that I discovered it was not syncing. First I get ..........Error 0x80040A41. Then the message is "There was an error syncing this document. The file cannot be accessed by the system". This is when I try to open the file on the SP2 using File Explorer. The list of files in the File Explorer window look normal.
Using SkyDrive online, when I try to open the same files in the same folder as above they don't look normal. They are all faded icons. When I try to open any of them I get the message "The file couldn't be opened"
When I try to open the same files on my desktop PC running Windows 8 using File Explorer there is no problem. Likewise when I go to SkyDrive online from this PC there is no problem. This narrows the problem down to Surface Pro 2 syncing, or not syncing.
Any Ideas anybody please?

Hi.

Basic troubleshooting steps would be to try and reproduce that behavior with another machine that runs 8.1 - if that works, try to sync another folder on the problem machine and report back.

Thanks McKnife. You helped me out before! I don't have another Windows 8.1 machine to use. I decided to try Microsoft support. The problem is solved. I had a total of over 8 hours of chat but it's now syncing with SkyDrive without any problems. I have all the chat transcripts. Should I post them here in case they are useful to anybody? I can delete email my addresses etc. mentioned in the chats.
