To reverse to original question of how to downgrade a CAL to a SAP access point what about the reverse. What is the process to upgrade a SAP to a CAP access point.  We run on a very tight budget so buying in as low as possible will get me new generation access points but I will be reaching close to 50 soon so a controller is a better solution. Will SMART NET get me access to the CAP code to upgrade to SAP access points?

Easy... :-)

Download the Lightweight recovery image from Cisco, then use the Software Upgrade feature in the GUI on the AP, or use the archive download-sw command via the CLI.

This will help...
