How to configure Cisco AnyConnect VPN to use AD for login credentials

I'm tasked with figuring out how to configure our upgraded Cisco 5500 ASA to use AD credentials for login when clients use AnyConnect VPN.

It was suggested that I need to create a service account on the ASA to connect to the network AD server and it would handle authentication traffic.

Yes you need to create service account on AD which will be used for ldap bind to active directory.
