When you booted from the DVD and and ran Repair Disk, did it say the disk was OK?

Can you open folders while booted in safe mode?

Have you tried creating a new user?

Have you checked the console logs for errors?

There is a suggestion on the internet that booting into safe mode, opening and closing a few folders, then rebooting may solve the problem.

If not, try copying and pasting the following line into a terminal window and hit return

rm ~/.DS_Store

Then copy and paste this line into terminal and hit return

rm ~/Desktop/.DS_Store
