Laptop VGA output to external monitor works but no keyboard
Hi, I have a toshiba satellite laptop and I have connected it to an external monitor through its VGA output but the laptop's keyboard doesn't work.
Then replace the keyboard, and temporarily connect an external one until the replacement internal keyboard arrives.
if the KBD does not work, + the screen , it looks like you better replace the mother board
you can look if the usb keyboard works - and is enabled from the bios

nobus, yes + the screen does not work and this is the reason I tried to use an external monitor but I was surprised when I saw that even keyboard did not work... But I did not connect this problem with the problem of the screen and I thought that maybe had to do with the VGA for some reason..!!!
So your opinion is that I have to replace its motherboard (or buy new laptop!)

well - you can try an external keyboard and mouse, and see if they do work first (see rindi's suggestion)
you can always test if the screen and keyboard work fine in the bios, or when booted from a live cd - here a couple :
http://www.ubcd4win.com/ ubcd Win
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/knoppix-dvd/KNOPPIX_V7.0.5DVD-2012-12-21-EN.iso Knoppix
i prefer using knoppix

Sorry but as I said screen does not work at all... I can not see neither BIOS... So I can not understand the last comment...
from your post i thought the external screen DID work - but not the keyboard
if BOTH do not work, try removing the bios battery for a minute, reconnect and check
and if this does not work - yes a new motherboard for Christmas!
