DFS folder redirection with GPO and recent office 2010 links that wont open properly

On Friday I redirected everyones home folder to the DFS point, as I saw they were just pointing to a single file server.  My issues now are office wont open the files that pointed to \\server1\userdocuments\username\documents in the recent opened file page.
It errors with unable to find the location, which it is a viable location if I type it in windows explorer.  If I open a file from the DFS share now in the user's home drive or on the file servers it opens in protected view which I can fix with a GPO to remove the alert.
The save location in office points to the DFS share of the users home drive which is good.

So is there a reason the DFS location is opening in protected view and why wont the recent office links which point directly to the file server not open anymore?

thanks

To solve protected view, try adding *.domain.com to your Local Intranet settings in IE instead of Trusted Sites. If you access a file share by FQDN or IP it will automatically be in the internet zone instead of the intranet zone.

thanks - adding the domain to the local intranet fixed the protected view.  Im not sure why but some users recent links broke but not all as I have been checking with all.  some users my docs just did not move properly but they are being fixed.
