Can an asp.net/C#(backend) check if users have Firefox installed?

i have a web application that is a Intranet site.  When users come to this website, can my program get to check their registry to see if they have Firefox browser installed already?  My program wants to ask them to install if they haven't and I wonder if a web application would have rights to do so from C# back end code.

Thank you.

Your backend code doesn't come into the picture for this sort of scenario Your backend code just produces HTML/CSS/JavaScript which is send to the Browser Its the Browser that runs the show client side.

The browser cannot in general access local computer settings because that would be a massive security risk. However you can run say an ActiveX control in the browser which can ask the user for permission and then do that sort of stuff. Flash might also allow  that sort of thing.

That's what I guessed it would not do.  Thank you.
