Hi ,

1.I need a simple explanation of what is really the configurable product is ?

2.We need to create simple products before creating the configurable products ?

3.If so we need to create configurable products using the already created simple products?

4. How attributes map with configurable products ?

5.Do you have any sample csv file to import configurable products ?

The aim of the question is to import products to magento and i have supplier file with both simple and configurable products .

PS . I handled simple products , this is the first time on configurable products .

Thanks,
Magento

Hi

A configurable product is like a parent product to a child (simple) product.

If we were to use the example of clothing and T Shirts, The Style of the T Shirt would be the way to distinguish each parent product and the Size and Colour would be configurable attributes of the configurable product.
Each SKU is a simple product of e.g. Green - Size6, Green - Size 8, Green - Size10, Red - Size 6, Red- Size 8 etc

A configurable product is the product that is displayed to the user on the frontend. You do not display every variation (simple product) in the category pages because it would be too many of the same thing.

The configurable product is not actually sold to the customer - the child (simple) is.

It is far simpler to set up the parent (configurable ) first and use the "Quick Create" feature in Associated products to generate all the child products.

If you are using import and CSVs from suppliers, this will contain simple (child) products only. Do not attempt to create a configurable product from CSV it is too complicated and troublesome. The best approach here is to import the simples, create a configurable, then instead of quick create, associate the imported simples to the configurable
