Compaq Presario cq62 put into sleep won't boot up

The machine was working fine and the user put it into sleep mode. When attempting to restart the machine it failed and the caps lock light was slow blinking. It either slow blinked continuously or it could be a single blink with a pause continuously. The f12 key is also lit up.

The system is running Windows 7. The user tried the hard reset of removing the battery and holding the power switch for more than 30 seconds.

I removed the hard drive and I am backing it up. It seems fine.

What is the most likely cause of the failure?

Some have suggested overheating it so that it will turn itself off and this has cured some machines. Is this a good idea?
