VSS problem, Unable to Quiesce, vmware/server 2012

I am trying to backup an ESX host using StoreGrid. It fails and I opened a ticket with them but they basically told me this is an OS issue. So...

When the back up fails this is what I see in vmware notification:
The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 5 The error message was: 'VssSyncStart' operation failed: IDispatch error #8449 (0x80042301)

So when I go to the server and look at the Windows application log:

I have tried:
1. Reregistering the DLL Files via this URL:

2. Rebooted server/restarted services
3. Reinstalled vmware tools (did not actually uninstall it first)
4. Restarted cyrpto service which takes system writer out of failed state, but doesnt fix the issue.


This is ESXi 5.1 with essentials (the free version)
Windows Server 2012 standard

Can we just check if you are using the FREE version or if you have PAID Money to VMware, and have an Essentials License, it makes a big difference.

Because "This is ESXi 5.1 with essentials (the free version) " - Essentials is not FREE, so do not undersatand this?

Can you check the following:-

Try and Take A Snaphshot

1. Take A Snapshot with the Quiesce option ticked
2. Wait 60 seconds
3. Delete the Snapshot

Create virtual machine snapshot
server

Cannot take a memory snapshot, since the virtual machine is configured with independent
disks.

I just discovered that Hard Disk 2 is an independent disk.

I'm assuming I need to disable this?

That will be the issues, because you cannot Snapshot an independent disk.

Yes, check and Edit VM Settings, check Disk Settings, and Untick the Tick.
