Syncing with Microsoft Outlook 2011 for MAC

I am running Microsoft Outlook 2011 for MAC on my Apple iMac 21" with OSX Mavericks.
I wish to Synchronise my Apple Address App with Outlook Contacts - and Visa versa if possible.
I have set the Outlook preferences to tick the boxes for Contacts, Notes, Calendar, Tasks and  have also ticked the box to sync on my computer in Sync Services - and though a message indicates that syncing is switched on - however nothing seems to have synced. I amended a contact in Address book and created a new one but neither synced in Office 2011. Having done a Google search, I did the quitting of the plist in activity monitor as suggested but still no sync.
All I want to do is make  my Apple Address book the default and have Outlook sync with it.

You will have to add an account in OSX mail preferences and add the email server to sync your contacts directly.
In other words you don't need Outlook to be a middle man ....

By default it will try to sync mail, calendar etc, just un-select everything except for contacts.

Sure. Is the a corporate or personal email account ? You can add the account by doing the following.

Go to :

System Preferences
Select Internet Accounts
Add Account

Let me know if yo get stuck after Add Account, I can find a step by step based on what type of email account you are adding.

Let me clarify. Your email server does not contact any contacts, correct ? They are only located in outlook at the moment ?

The ideal setup is to have your contacts sitting on a email server like exchange (office 365) , icloud or Yahoo.

The steps above will not help if your contacts are sitting in outlook. (sorry if I misunderstood)

My contacts are in MAC Address book and I have to copy them into Outlook 2011.
The contacts are of course on Apple iCloud which does sync with the Address book

It looks as if I will not get a satisfactory solution to my question since I learn that MAC address book syncing with Microsoft Outlook 2011 for MAC is not supported  in Mavericks?

Correct. You might have to wait for Outlook 2014 so you can hopefully sync it with iCloud.
