Select Item from a field list FM11

I have a field that contains a list of items each one separated by a carriage return. Is there a way that a user can go over the field and select an item from the list?

I'm not sure what you mean by "select"… normally to select text in a text field you simply double-click on the word or drag and select the word or lines. If you mean you want the user to select a particular item in the list, then what do you want to do with it?

In FileMaker, you can create a value list based on the values in a field (see File -> Manage -> Value Lists) which can then be displayed as a drop-down list, pop-up menu, radio buttons (select one only), checkboxes (select multiple), etc. In FileMaker, as "list" whether for a Value List or as a key field is a text string separated by carriage returns.

Hi willmcn,
What I want to do is have the user select the text and be able to run a script.  So if I have the following list:
FIELD_A
Apple
Orange
Strawberry

If the user selects (double-click) 'Orange', I want to be able to copy this value via script and then paste somewhere else.

Is this possible?

Thanks

I don't know of any way to trigger a script based on the user double-clicking with a field, since double-clicking already performs the function of selecting the word that you're double-clicking on.

You could use a Script Trigger that runs on: OnObjectValidate, OnObjectSave or OnObjectExit. The trick is that the use would have to tab out or click out of the field in order to activate any of those. The script could then perform a Copy script step (with "Select All" turned off) to copy the selected value in the field.

You could also have a small button next to the field that triggers the script that performs a Copy on that field (again with "Select All" turned off).
