DFSR Backlog files stuck

I have setup a Distributed Files Server and it replicates to two sites. when running a command to check the backlog i noticed there was over 400,000 files stuck in backlog. I'm not sure how to clear this or to begin replication again. Is there anything i should do or wait for the replication to begin again.

What is the OS of DFS servers, Windows 2008 R2 ?

An outgoing replication backlog occurs after you convert a read/write replicated folder to a read-only replicated folder in Windows Server 2008 R2

Install this hotfix to all of the DFSR members, then disable and enable the membership to trigger another initial sync to see the result.

Did not need the hot fix. i disabled the member for a day then enabled it's still back log but the number decreases each day. it's a large number and may take a week or two to catch up.
