Xcode, iPhone dev workspace set up, any good advice?

Hi,

I'm starting my new cunning plan.
I will make a GPS app in Xcode.
My old MacBook that I did my previous cunning plans' dev on died.

I know I can simply download the Xcode setup,
but is there a preferred place to get it from?
What is the best link, for the Xcode studio, or is it all basically the same, no hostile Nigerian versions?

I am going to use this GPS tutorial here
Looks good to me?

Thanks

To get iOS version look under the SETTINGS .. then the GENERAL sub section .. then ABOUT ... and you'll see a section called VERSION .... this will give your iOS version.

When developing for iOS  you can decide whether your app is compatible with iOS 7 or earlier versions.  There are quite a few features in iOS 7 which were not available before and apple it trying to encourage all users to run the latest iOS version.

All apps for iOS are listed in the iTunes Store section in iTunes under App Store .. you can search for GPS apps or specific keywords related to the function of your GPS .. there are millions of iOS apps out there.
You can also brows the App Store online

There is only one place to get XCode officially and that is from Apple and there is a latest version with iOS7 support and legacy versions for support for iOS6 and iOS5 (now a small percentage of iOS devices)

You can download the multi GB installer from the Apple Developer website downloads section (for older OSX versions) or via the Apple App Store

How do I determine what iOs my phone has?

and does it matter what I write my code as? Will it work on all versions? It is simply a GPS utilizing app.

Is there a place where I can peruse GPS apps to see if my idea is taken?

Thanks
