typing a backslash on keyboard on a remote windows computer via logmein shows as an apostrophe

Hi - It seems that when I am accessing a windows computer remotely via logmein (im using a mac, in case that matters), every time i type a \ (backslash) it shows up as a ' (apostrophe) - I have a feeling this is something silly and easy, but i just cannot figure it out - any help would be appreciated.
