SharePoint, migrate share point from hosted to hosted

We have a customer on hosted exchange and hosted SharePoint.  They want to move from their current host to Microsoft Office 365 and they want their share point to go as well.

What's the best way to backup/restore or move the share point from point A to point B?

Consider that the host is RackSpace and the destination is Microsoft Office 365.

Thanks

Office 365 don't offer support for migration (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852518.aspx). You can't do a backup/restore into Office 365.

A move like this requires data to be moved manually or using a tool like Metalogix web matrix.

Migrations are involved tasks. Time consuming and delicate. Plan to throw some legacy content away if it isn't used. Clean up the remainder if possible before moving it over. A migration is a chance to improve things too.

If you have any custom code on the hosted SharePoint (web parts, event receivers, certain branding assets), be aware they can't go onto O365 either.

Finally, so as not to assume, what version of SharePoint was hosted at Rackspace? (Office 365 will be SharePoint 2013-like for a new subscription).

Do your users need training in the new platform? (Probably.)
