Podcast Parallel to Email Blast

I am working on a project where we want to offer some content in two different formats: written email and audio podcast.  We want them to go out at the same time and the content will be similar, the only difference being that one is audio and the other written.

I plan on using Mail Chimp on the email side to send out a scheduled e-blast.

What I'm looking for is how to do that on the audio side. I know that people can subscribe to iTunes to get a podcast, but some people don't have (or like or want) iTunes.

On the Mail Chimp side, you just send an email and the recipients client software (or browser) does the work.  So I'm looking for a similar service on the audio side. A place where people can sign up and we can distribute without the requirement of iTunes or some specific software.

Does that exist?  Or do I need to distribute to a variety of services to get my coverage.

Thanks.

Here's an answer I received from some friends on this topic:

Makes sense but I am not familiar with anything (although that is not saying much as there is a lot that I do not know)

I'm in the same boat. I am unaware of anything. I would need to do some research to be able to answer that question with a solution.

I’ve followed different apps and platforms that journalists and others are using for producing, hosting and distributing audio (and video) recordings and I can’t say as I’ve ever seen something like you are describing. Sounds like a neat idea and if you’ve got some ideas on how to get there sounds like you could have a great product. The one niggling concern is my mind that some people either live in areas where cell data is costly/slow or have limited data plans (like here in the US) and aren’t happy when they find they’ve been pushed over the limit by a download they didn’t consciously initiate.
