Dear EE experts,

Aside from buying Apple TV, what is the best free or paid App for showing web videos to TV from iphone/ipod/ipad?

We have SONY TV Box (with Wifi) that is connected to our LCD TV, we're hesitant to buy Apple TV as it doesn't accept external hdd, in whereas the sony tv box can.

Anyway, back to the question, what we want is if we're watching youtube or any videos from Safari, using ipad or iphone or ipod, we would like to airplay it to our LCD TV via Sony TV Box.
What app, free or paid is the best that you can suggest?

Thank you & hope to hear soon...

As far as I know there is no application that will let you stream video to your Sony TV Box. You have several alternatives to send your video from your ipad/iphone/ipod to your TV. If you want wireless streaming an Apple tv will be your best bet.

Another cheaper alternative would be the chromecast, however the application must support chromecast. (The offical youtube applicaiton does however videos on safari will not be sent)

If you don't mind a wired connection then your best option would be to use an hdmi output to your TV. This will allow you to send whatever is on your iDevice to your TV. Apple sells these devices on their website:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter?fnode=3a

however you could probably find them cheaper elsewhere online.

sorry if this is not the answer you wanted but I hope this helps!

@CT, I don't think ChromeCast is available here in Thailand...
But anyway, thank you for your suggestion...

@Zebo_One, yes you're right, the best option is via wired connection (hdmi), but the thing is, if we want to play games from the ipad and we want to play with others wirelessly, we can't do it.
So I guess, there's no other choice but to use an Apple TV, but the problem with Apple TV is, it's limited with its features here in asia, there's no hulu plus or netflix, we can't play it here (only in USA)...

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions :)

I remember one expert who advised me about chromecast and we're using it right now. Thanks for your advise @CT (@ComputerTechie), we got 3 google chromecast from a friend who went to the USA last April and gladly they bought it for us... CT was right, chromecast works well & very flexible, but it's still limited with Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch. The only thing that you can cast it to your TV is via youtube, unless you'll use your macbook or laptop & via Google Chrome browser.

Or we miss something? Is there anything that we could do with chromecast via iphone, ipad, aside from youtube?
