I have a VMWare Client 5.5

How do I install an Emulex driver (I have the driver I need, just dont know how to do it)

Also, do you install the driver onto the EXXi or only the ESXi for that particular NIC ?

Thanks

Firstly, do you have the ESXi 5.5 driver for your emulex device?

Is the emulex device on the HCL?

Check the VMware Hardware Compatability Lists HCL here

The VMware Hardware Compatibility List is the detailed lists showing actual vendor devices that are either physically tested or are similar to the devices tested by VMware or VMware partners. Items on the list are tested with VMware products and are known to operate correctly.Devices which are not on the list may function, but will not be supported by VMware.

http://www.vmware.com/go/hcl

If you have the driver which is likely to be zip file which contains a VIB (the driver), and is compatible with ESXi 5.5

1. You need to upload the driver to the VMFS datastore.

This can be done using WinSCP or Datastore browser.

2. Login at the Console or via SSH

see here

Part 5: HOW TO: Enable SSH Remote Access on a VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.1 (ESXi 5.1)

3. and then execute the following command

esxcli software vib install -d /path/to/zip-file

If the hardware device is missing from ESXi 5.5, you will need to install the driver on all servers which require access to the hardware.
