I have a CPA Firm that wishes to have a system that can

Text his clients to remind them of the upcoming tax appointment.

What are the better services that are out there?

If you use outlook, you can go this route.
See link:
http://www.outlook-apps.com/follow-up-emails-reminder/

texting from outlook is simple you just need to know which service your client uses for phone,
for example Verizon uses phonenumber@vtext.com
sending an email from an email client is as simple as sending email to 18005551212@vtext.com *for Verizon
