DNS forwarder for HTTPS://mail.ourexchangeserver.com/owa POSSIBLE???
Currently to access our exchange 2013 servers OWA we need to input the following into a browser.
https://mail.ourexchangeserver.com/owa
Very long and as admins we are tired of reminding users it must be https and to add the /owa
IS there a CNAME record or some way at the domain registration to redirect a simple URL like
email.ourdomain.com to https://mail.ourexchangeserver.com/owa ??

Personally I just put some HTML code in the root of the web site which redirects people to the HTTPS version and /owa. Does require that you are using the same host name internally and externally though.
Although blocking HTTP traffic is pretty effective - most users will bookmark it eventually.

Also you can use http redirection:

Before making any changes. Backup IIS and Server.

HTML code is completely version independent.

It is called URL redirection, technically.
ASKER
We solved this by calling Godaddy where the domain is registered. Simple sub domain forwarding
There's no way of doing this via a CNAME in DNS, but have a look at the following article :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975341/en-gb How to redirect requests from HTTP to HTTPS or to the OWA virtual directory in IIS 7
Also, you could use a group policy preference to deploy the shortcut to the clients, so they don't have to type the address and remove the opportunity for errors.

Alastair.
