Ipad 3 - reset to factory settings

I'm planning on resetting my Ipad 3 back to it's factory settings.  What's the best way to do this and save all pictures and data found on the device?

I'm assuming that there's some type of reformatting the hard drive?

Hi,

Connect the ipad to a mac/pc and sync to mac/pc or to cloud.
Once done, goto settings -> General en push reset.

Press (hold) the "Sleep/Wake" button on the upper right of your iPad along with the circular "Home" button on the lower middle part for about 10 seconds. Now you should see the Apple logo. And you have successfully reset your iPAD.

How long does this normally take to reset?  Lastly, does it do any reformat of the drive?

Hi

It will be done in a matter of minutes but NO there is no formatting. The device is just reversed to initial state. (compare to a snapshot)

First backup your data.  It takes about seconds (less than 30).

It won't format. The encryption key for the data is just erased.

I always use iTunes on my PC to create a back up of my iPad...
