Custom social network buttons for wordpress site

We currently are using the default buttons that the code from facebook and twitter provide us to allow people to like our facebook for follow us on twitter right from the website. I wanted to customize the buttons so they look better for the site. Is this possible using the code that facebook and twitter give us

You might want to look into the Simple Social Icons plugin:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-social-icons/

It provides you with an alternative to the default icons provided by the social media sites and gives them a nice, flat, and basic  look and feel that integrate very well.

After installing the plugin, you can add it as a widget.  In the widget are the various settings.
