Joomla protostar template, main menu background color

I'm trying to restore the default background color that the protostar template uses for the Joomla main menu. I've lost it and cannot see how to restore it in the Joomla Admin panel or in template.css. The Main menu entries on my home page are inside a table class "moduletable_menu" with li of class "nav_menu". I want the main menu background color to match the blue/gray background color of the footer bar that shows at the bottom of each article. Right now the background color is white (same as the page, which also does not reflect the background color that I've chosen in the Admin panel). Thanks in advance.

I don't believe I can use Firebug, since my (goDaddy) host limits the programs that can be installed. I tried following the advice in EE solution ID ID: 39106576 (Changing Joomla Menu Color) but the result was not good so I restored the original template.css.

Firebug has nothing to do with Godaddy, it's a browser extension.

You can use "Inspect element" from Chrome's right click menu, for ex, to see what CSS rules are being applied to your main menu.

I installed Firebug, didn't realize it was a client app.

The problem was with the module itself: the Main Menu module was using table properties instead of "inherited" properties in its style (select module, advanced properties in module manager).
