Outlook error opening and a url General Failure: The URL was

Outlook 2010 opened all URLs in Firefox even though my default browser was safari. I have cleaned Windows 7 thoroughly, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, hijack this etc.

Repaired Office 2010, and I still get the error:
General Faulure  the url was "www.mydomain.com" application not found

File associations, and the default programs list safari as the default browser.

That didn't work.

I noticed that resetting internet explorer that I get a red x on applying computer settings.

I've tried running as administrator, and in safe mode.  Still cannot reset. This  may be related.

I rolled back internet explorer all the way to 9. Successfully reset, repaired office installation and removed all user settings (was an option when repairing).

Success.
