How to open a RDL file in VS 2010 in design mode and edit it?

How to open a RDL file in VS 2010 in design mode and edit it? When I add the rdl to the project and open it it open as XML format. But I want in design mode.

I tried in both Widows and Web reports project. But no luck. Please assist.

Right-click on the file in the Solution Explorer.

Select Open With...

Click on the Report Designer and Set as Default.

I could not fine Report Designer as option. Please let me know what should I do for that?

What edition of Visual Studio do you have?

The Report Designer is not provided with the Express edition.

VS 2010 and VS 2008 enterprise edition I have.

I fired an older computer that still has VS2010 on it.

It recognize .rdlc files as reports files and offers the option, but .rdl files are not recognized.

You thus probably need to convert the .rdl to a .rdlc following the technique described at

By opening with VS 2008 it works. However you solution is helpful.
