How important is ECC RAM in a server for 150 clients

I ran Server 2003 on a normal PC with no ECC ram for 9 years.
It acted as a domain controller, file server, WSUS and Norman antivirus distribution server.
I never found any corrupted files or had any serious problems with the server for 9 years.

I need a simple server now and am debating using another powerful workstation without RAID. (I just clone to a new HD every 3 years before the 1st HD dies)
The only question in my mind is ECC RAM.  From my understanding it cannot be used on a PC, only on a server.

Is it needed?

The first, and most obvious, is that not every computer can use ECC memory. Most server and workstation motheboards require ECC RAM, but the majority of desktop systems either won't work at all with ECC RAM or the ECC functionality will be disabled.
Plus here is an article on "The Importance of ECC RAM."

Thanks comfortjeanius

That article was both interesting and scary.

Maybe I should take this ECC RAM more seriously.
No problem anytime.
