Symantec backup exec job stuck at 100 percent - current file mailbox store

Hello,

I am trying to backup the usual servers but this time I am adding my exchange 2003 server to the backup regime.

I see that my backups are 100% complete. Yet, the estimated time remaining is absurdly high - please view my screenshot.

Any idea why this could be stuck at 100 but not actually completing? I don't see any alerts so I am a bit confused as to what can be causing this.

I recently removed the "automatically cancelled job after X amount of hours" feature. This feature was causing the jobs to fail with an error log which stated "job cancelled by user". However, now the job seems to be stuck at 100% and the exchange server seems to continue to be the culprit.

estimated completing time extremely high

Do you have a lot of logs to flush? If the backup hasn't completed for some time, that could be the case. Try cancelling the job, enable circular logging, then once the logs are clear, disabling it. Then immediately do a backup.

When you say circular logging, do you mean on Exchange?

I do. It is an option on the properties of the Storage Group.
However for the option to be enabled you have to either restart the information store service, or dismount the databases (cannot remember now, it has been some time since I touched an Exchange 2003 server).

thanks simon.

I just checked in storage group that circular logging indeed was already enabled.

Perhaps the backup doesn't like that being enabled. Try disabling it.
Is there anything in the event log around the time the job goes to 100% ?

Login failure could be anything.
You may have to look in the backup log to see when it says it reaches 100%.

Is this a separate job for Exchange? If not, try doing a new job that is just for Exchange.

prior to me adding the exchange server to the selection list, only 3 servers were been backed up including the media server. The counted for a total of 90GB but it would take 2 hours to complete.

The exchange server is on a separate vlan -which doesn't have too much traffic. Even though the job finished. i am still a bit confused.

The only thing I can suggest is to get a trial of another backup product (Backup Assist springs to mind), and see if the same performance issues occur.

The backup job ended up finishing on its own. However, Simon suggested to use a different vendor to see if the backup job takes the same amount of time. if so, then the problem is related to the server or network.
