How do I transfer my contacts from  my old Motorola  cell-phone (L7 SLVR MQ4 4411F11) to my new Iphone 4s?

What I tried:
I copied the contact list on the Motorola from phone to  Sim Card.
I then inserted the Sim Card into the Iphone and tapped: 'Settings',  'Mail, contacts, Calendars', and  'Import Sim Contacts. But it did not work. Nothing was transferred.

You'll not be able to import contacts that way from the SIM as the Motorla will store the data differently when compared to iPhone.

Most solutions will involve you "exporting" the data from the Motorola to a CSV or VCF file to your PC .. then importing that file into your iPhone via the Contacts app.  Do you have an application on your PC which syncs the Motorola phone or allows you to manage the contents of your phone?

You don't mention what computer you have but if Windows there are several apps which should be able to do it ... though the will charge a few $$

Motorola have a Contact Export Tool which SHOULD work on your device

Install, save contacts to your PC .. then import to something like Gmail Contacts ... and add GMail accounts to your iPhone to get contacts on your iPhone.
