Remote Web Workplace on Server 2012

We used to have exchange 07 running on an SBS08 box which had remote web workplace, this allowed us to access some network shares through the outlook web access.  Well we have moved exchange over to a new server 2012 standard box and moved to Exchange 2k13.

Is there a way to have remote web workplace on Server 2012 Standard?  If you can't have it on server 2012 is there a way I could run just RWW on the old server still?

I'd like to be able to have remote access to the desktops at work, but at a minimum I need to be able to let users access files remotely.

Any help very appreciated!

The closest you can get is Essentials. However you cannot have Essentials and Exchange on the same machine. For RDP access to workstations you will need RDP CALs as well.

The essentials role can be installed on to Windows 2012 I believe.

What you should have done is virtualised as you can have two VMs per physical host with a Windows 2012 licence. Then you could have an Essentials gateway and an Exchange server.

RWW cannot be removed from SBS and used elsewhere.

Would it be possible to set up an Essentials VM?  Also the SBS machine is still running as a DC.  Would it be possible to still use this box for RWW?

You can put Essentials in a VM.
However the host installation shouldn't be used for anything else.
You could continue to use the SBS Server for RWW if you wish, although you would need two external IP addresses as it would be unable to support ActiveSync and OWA for the newer version of Exchange.
