Smart Phone: Going to internet (no need the wireless connection?)

Hi,

I just bought the Samsung Galaxy S4. I post a question at EE recently related to going to internet with Smart Phone.

One of the expert said: Get the wireless connection, click “internet “icon then put the “address” (such as www.yahoo.com)

I did that, then it is true; Yes, I can go to internet

This is my confusion. However, I was somewhere in the street (not at my home which has got the wireless connection); I tried to surf internet there (I stopped at a street, then I search www.yahoo.com and other address; the result: I can go to all the address

My questions:

It seems that I did not need to have a wireless connection to surf the internet, is it true? Please confirm

Thanks,

tjie

That's true.  However, surfing thru your cell connection goes against your data usage while going your home (or any other) wireless network does not.  If you are billed for usage on a data plan, all your web surfing thru your cell connection will show up on your bill.  The wireless network usage will not.

Hi Dave,

So if i am at home (which i got the wireless connection from ISP), it is better for me to surf the internet using my wireless connection right? (So I will not be billed related to my data usage for the cell phone). Thanks

That's the general idea.  Sometimes you can use the wireless at coffee shops and restaurants too.
