hello,
i`m trying to export an external list from sharepoint - i tried exporting to 2007/2010/2013 - same error - excel cannot connect to the sharepoint list.
if it`s a regular sharepoint list (not external) I can export with no problem.

as from searching the internet for a solution, I tried adding the sharepoint site to the trusted location at  excel but it didn`t helped.

we have sharepoint 2013 enterprise

thanks in advance

Hello Ed,

as I read on MS site it`s for exporting only to 2013, I checked it on my enviorment & it worked on 1 pc with OF2K13 and not on another pc with the same office suite.
as it matter I need solution to export on OFSK10, I can disregard 2007 version (although it can save us some money in upgrades on specific stations)

i`m trying to add the solution as provided in codeplex - I manually added, deployed & activated it.
I have the button on the ribbon , when clicking on it I get the menu to choose the excel output format but when choosing either of the options i`m getting an error.

You might not have a proper permission to export the said external list.

You need to look into consideration that external list needs authenticated connection before you can display it in SharePoint. The same logic applies once you export it from there.

the external list using the secure store to authenticate,  permitted users can see it & refresh in sharepoint, upon export the excel we are getting the errors

The codeplex project doesn't work on sp2013
After checking and verifying, I can only export to excel 2013, external lists exports in sp2013 only supported for excel 2013, also when installing the office 2013 suite verify that you selected the install all components (run all from my computer) and just the standard installation

Ed solution guided me in finding the answer I needed
