How can I make public pages and member pages using one wordpress implementation?

I have installed wordpress 3.8 and I want to make ublic pages for everyone and private restricted different pages for members using free plugins, I tried the members lugin but n9w it starts always with wp login form, I found another article showing how to do it but with a paid plugin, is the here a way to do it woth free plugins?

You misconfigured the Members plugin.  When you install it, don't set it to "private site" as that will always force a login.  Instead, just let it run in its default configuration and each page or post edit screen will have an option to restrict by WordPress roles.
