hi,

we have Microsoft BCM data being hosted on a Windows Home Server 2011 machine with SQL Server Express 2088.

currently, we are using the Business Contact Manager for 2010 Database Tool to perform manual backups - not the ideal situation.

will the built-in WHS 2011 backup work when backing up our BCM SQL database?

if not, what are some cost-effective solutions for automatic backup of our BCM database?

Thanks in advance.

The built in Windows Server backup will do an image of the entire server.

However, to be able to recover an application / database then the application needs to registered with Windows Server Backup for showing it as a recoverable item in the recovery wizard.

Please have a look at the below:

I would suggest doing a scheduled backup from SQL Server Management Studio if it is installed.  If not installed then taking a backup with the BCM Database tool would also be acceptable.

Thank you for your response.

Can SQL Server Management Studio be set up to do automatic backups w/o any user intervention?

In previous versions of the studio you can so I imagine so.

It can always be done via a script and a scheduled task as well - You can probably do this with the BCM Database tools.
