windows 2012r2 - pondering whether to install the Windows Server Essentials Experience role?

are there any negative effects - eg things that can be un done - or things that cannot be done once the essentials experience rols is installed?

or does it just make maintenanace of the domain in general much easier???

please advise

thank you

Yes, there are things that cannot be done if the essentials role is installed. So deciding to install the role is a matter of weighing those issues and making a decision.

Wile there are too may variants to list individually, it is generally true that MOST other roles will not coexist well with the essentials role. File services, print services, ADDS, and DHCP will, but those are exceptions, not the norm.

With virtualization, this usually isn't a big hurdle. Isolating roles on different installs (VMs) is a best practice even when essentials isn't involved. So just extrapolate that out. Dedicate a VM to essentials if you want/like that feature set and you'll be good to go and won't run into limitation issues that you would stuffing it all on one OSE.
