Outlook 2010, manual check for e-mail only

I have just updated to outlook 2010, Previously I manually checked for e-mail as and when I wished from whichever account I wanted to.
Since installing Outlook 2000, every time I launch Outlook 2010 it checks for e-mails on all accounts and downloads them.
Is there any way that it can be configured so that I can manually check for e-mail with Outlook 2010 and not have it automatically checking ?

You could create a shortcut to outlook and use a command switch.

"nopollmail" should work

See list of commands:

Thanks for that, meanwhile I discovered by trial and error how to do it from the Send/Receive menu drop-down options , just select  the Disable Scheduled Send/Receive option at the bottom of the selection Menu as per attached image.

Thanks for your comments, I will test that later. Is there a rfeference fo command line options on Outlook 2010 ?

can't get the /nopollmail switch to work with outlook 2010.  That link of switches provided above  shows that the nopollmail switch only works in outlook 2003
