We have Vcenter Server installed on a physical machine we need to convert it to virtual machine, and it will show up on the Vsphere Client console.
I would like to know what steps and precautions to take in order to accomplish this task.

Thanks

0. Shutdown ALL the vCenter Services.

1. Shutdown ALL the SQL Services.

2. Install VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.5 on the physical machine to be converted.

see my EE Article, Step by Step Tutorial Instructions with Screenshots

If you wanted to avoid downtime, the SYNC option above would also work fine.
