Internet Explorer White Screen of Death

I am using Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer is a white screen with no options to do anything and if I type in a URL it does nothing.

I cannot think of anything that I did (like installation of another program, or uninstalled something) that caused it to occur.

I tried using the "Turn Windows Features On/Off" of "Internet Explorer 11" but turning it off, rebooting and then turning it back on, and rebooting did not seem to help.

Attached is a picture of my predicament.

Does the error occur in safe mode also?

Create a new user profile, log on, and see if the error occurs on that profile also.

If yes to both, try a "refresh install" (repair install) of Windows 8.

Using the windows key + R you can open a run prompt. Type in:

iexplore.exe -extoff

This will open IE with all add-ins and plugins turned off. See if doesn't white screen on you then it means there is a bad add-in that needs to be disabled or removed.

Ok, works on Guest account.

Also works if I do the windows key +r run with -extoff

However, I disabled all Add Ins and it still is a white screen if I dont run it with extoff

Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset resolved the issue.

It's amazing how many defective products Microsoft puts out and then refuses to fix.
The solution is to avoid them as much as possible. It's the only fix that works consistently.
