when I try to close iTunes it does not close no matter how many times I click on the x . I have to go to task manager and end process there. why is this happening and how can I stop this from re occurring every time I open iTunes?

I suggest you reinstall iTunes.  Do a complete uninstall, restart and install of the latest version of iTunes (download from Apple).

Do a complete uninstall of iTunes following the steps below (from several Apple forums).

Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and uninstall in order:

iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support

Now restart the computer, download the newest version of iTunes and install it.

That should fix your issue. I have iTunes working just fine on Windows 7

after downloading iTunes, do I download the following in the same order that you had listed above ??
or are they built into the installation files of iTunes and the only thing that I would need to install is Quick time.

QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support

also why I always have this problem as far not wanting to close , I have been through this before once , and now it is happening again. Thank you

All six things (iTunes, QuickTime, Update, Mobile, Bonjour, and Application Support) are built into the iTunes install. If you need iTunes, download it and all will be installed.

I have not seen QuickTime for quite a while on its own. If you can find it and that is all you need, then uninstall all 6, restart and install just QuickTime. You can see if QuickTime is available from this Apple Support link below.

as far not wanting to close , I have been through this before once , and now it is happening again.

If a complete uninstall, restart, and install continues not to work, try opening iTunes in a different Windows User Account profile. Set up a test user account to try. If it works in one Windows account and not another, then you could have a corrupt Windows profile.

Thank you for all that information. If I am not mistaken in the past the QuickTime , was not part of iTunes, I had install it separately from ITunes from apple.com. I will try the test account if the problem returns. However. I just reinstalled windows 7 a month ago. What would cause my user profile to be corrupted?

QuickTime is disappearing and being submerged in iTunes. It was there on my Windows 7 machine with iTunes V11.0.3 and earlier. After I did the steps above, and installed iTunes V11.0.4, Quick Times is no longer there. I use iTunes for all my Apple needs and Windows Media Player for other Windows needs. I have not needed QuickTime for a long time.

If you still need QuickTime, try the link I provided.

I will try the test account if the problem returns. .... What would cause my user profile to be corrupted?

I don't know, especially on a new install of Windows. However, iTunes (V11.0.4 now without QuickTime) works very well and with no errors on 3 Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machines around here right now. I suggested a different profile to see if that is the problem.

I did you everything that you mentioned. Small problem though! When I click on an album get a message saying "the song..... could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? 2 options below  locate or cancel. The same thing happens with other albums. Any suggestions

Please note that the article includes the steps above and also steps to delete on of the library database files.

Please be sure you back things up first (for certain).

I did a complete uninstall, restart, install newest as noted above and everything in iTunes was there when I was done for both our iPhones. So I have not tried the steps above.

The problem I have is not related to the iTunes store but rather it asking me to locate it on my computer and I am sure but I do not know why I keep getting this error message once located the song that is then it can played no problem??

These were the steps I was referring to which are on your computer and not in the store.

5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file

6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.

7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder

8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"

I am thinking that the reinstalling of iTunes might possibly have caused some confusion in the files. That did not happen to me, but I thought it might be a possibility in your case.

I am not sure what else may cause the issue.

From the above steps for the iTunes Library files and folders, I saw an expansion of the discussion:
