Migrate WSUS from a windows 2008r2 server to a win 2012 server

Hi,

I want to migrate my WSUS installation from it's current home on a WIndows 2008r2 server to a WIndows 2012 Server (different servers).

The current installation is installed on a Server also running SQL server that it uses for DB storage.

I also need to move the DB from the SQL 2008r2 installation to a SQL 2012 install on another windows 2012 server.

Anyone done this?

Any tips appreciated but also looking for a how to guide with a little hand-holding... :-)

Migrate Windows Server Update Services to Windows Server 2012
Follow below steps
Prior to install brand new WSUS on 2012 server, just install 2012 SQL server software on the destination server
Then install WSUS server role on the destination server. After you have successfully installed the WSUS server role, the Configuration Wizard starts automatically. Close the Configuration Wizard.

Prepare source and destination servers for migration
Prepare to Migrate WSUS

Migrate WSUS
Move WSUS update binaries from the source server to the destination server.
Migrate local users and groups manually or by using Windows Server Migration Tools.
Use SQL Server Management Studio to back up and restore the WSUS database, computer groups, update approvals, and WSUS settings.
Change the WSUS server identity on the destination server. Performing this step ensures that there is no effect on clients that are managed by WSUS during the migration process.
Configure security settings on the new server. This includes configuring security settings on the destination server that you were using on the source server.
