WorlDox document conversion

I have a legal case management solution with a simple document management system.  I have a new client that is migrating off of their existing case management system to ours, and they also want us to move their documents "out of" WorlDox and into ours.

Is there any help out there for how to extract any possible meta-data associated with the documents themselves?  I'm told that the database format is a proprietary system.  I'd like to know more about it.

I have no experience with WorlDox, so I will try to help with my overall background in Document Management. Although the database format is proprietary, it's likely that they're able to export both the documents and the metadata in some industry-standard format. I looked at the Developer and Integrator Resources page at their website:
http://www.worldox.com/support/resources

It says that there's an SDK and even has a download link for it. I downloaded it, but ran into password protection when I tried to unzip it. I then noticed that it says, "Contact Worldox Support for info and access." Since your new client is still a WorlDox customer, have your client request access to the SDK. You'll need to check the EULA and/or your client's contract with WorlDox to make sure you're in license compliance, but since the data is your client's data, they should have every right to export it from the WorlDox system, and it's very likely that the SDK will provide API calls to do that.

There's also Documentation/Knowledge Base at the site:
http://www.worldox.com/support/documentation

This could be very helpful in figuring out how to export the docs and metadata into an industry-standard format, but once again I ran into password protection on the "Click here to access the Worldox Knowledge Base" link. So this is another case where you should leverage your client's existing relationship with WorlDox (being cautious again about license compliance).

I've had a lot of experience during many years with clients moving from one document management system to another – sometimes I've been on the winning end, other times on the losing end. In all cases, my companies have cooperated with competitors, and competitors have cooperated with us, to make the client's transition as easy as possible. Once the client has decided to move, it's not in a company's best interest to be uncooperative in the process, and I've seen none of that during decades in the business.

Sorry I can't be helpful with the specifics of WorlDox, but it's not a product that I've ever run into. Regards, Joe

Thank you for your detailed and helpful directions.

I also found that WorlDox has the ability to export any search result list as CSV, which is perfect for my purposes.

Thanks again.

Very nice! I was hoping for some industry-standard format and that certainly qualifies.

You're welcome. Happy to help. Congrats on getting a new client and best of luck with the migration project! Regards, Joe
