repair VSS writers on Server 2008

Is it possible to repair corrupt VSS writers on Server 2008?  Please see this thread for background:

You can try reregistering the VSS writers to make sure they are functioning properly.  Refer to this link on re-registering them and checking them to make sure they are working initially
