Outlook 2013 (Windows 8.1) Search Hang Ups

I have a client who has hang ups on certain searches within Outlook 2013, specifically if they search using Quotes (example "Jenlor)

Issue is also seen in Outlook 2010 and 2007 clients as well.

I found, if I take Microsoft Outlook out of the Indexing options within Outlook, the searches no longer hang - but take a lot longer because of the indexing not being enabled.

Client is not satisfied with this, as they need quick searches :/

I've tried rebuilding indexes, but this did not resolve issue.

Just trying to see additional steps to take, rebuilding Mail profile in Outlook did not resolve either....some of these users have 25,000 + e-mails in their Inbox.

Most laptops are Windows 8.1 w/Outlook 2013.
Exchange 2010 SP3 hosted internally

Any help appreciated, and hoping someone else has run into this.....

Thanks!!

Just trying to see additional steps to take, ....some of these users have 25,000 + e-mails in their Inbox.

I have Outlook 2013 running on Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. I have Outlook integrated into Windows Search. It does not hang up.

Try archiving your email to reduced the size of the inbox. The inbox is too large and the "hang up" likely is more a performance issue of some kind.

I can certainly recommend this to them, to get e-mails cleaned up...the newest user with about 10K e-mails or so is experiencing issue too.

Here is what is weird, it's a few threads that hang up Outlook when searching for them.
Other searches, work perfectly fine but these 2 threads so far we find completely hang Outlook.

These are e-mail back and forth between 2 different clients/vendors of my client....odd that these e-mails would hang when searching but then others work as normal and no issue....just at a loss for what is going on.

If it was every search, I could get a grasp of that but this one is just odd.....

Indexing options normally set contents search for Word, Excel, Adobe and like document processing files.

So then if the threads have very large attachments as above, that may cause a performance hit.

Also, 10,000 emails in an Inbox is still huge. I never have more than 100 in my Inbox before filing and eventually archiving.

Thanks for the help, I agree.  I let mine get to 1 or 2K, then start cleaning up as I think that is even a pretty large inbox.

Getting my client to agree, or even try to understand that....a different story.  I appreciate your time and help!

Going to discuss archiving/mailbox cleanup and as well check those threads if they contained any files/attachments...I don't remember off hand.

Update:  After disavling Aero Theme on Windows 8, 1 of the 2 found searches no longer hang.

The other one does not hang when running in Safe Mode.
Disabled add-ins but the one last search (e-mail thread) still hangs when running Outlook 2013 as normal.

1 left isn't too bad, what is really weird is the search finishes, and shows all results...when you click on any of the found results...Outlook then hangs and goes to Not Responding.
Event Viewer just shows a vague App Crash as you have to close Outlook via Task manager.

The only reason Aero might have an impact is that it uses resources and the Inbox is huge, so that ties back the performance issue I mentioned earlier.

the search finishes, and shows all results...when you click on any of the found results...Outlook then hangs

That also smacks of performance problems. Windows 8.1 gets stuck on performance issues. If I try (say) Reliability Monitor when the hard drive is very busy with updates, then it hangs and takes Windows Explorer with it. I have learned what works and what does not when the hard drive is very busy.  Windows 8.1 is quirky in this way.

Definitely makes sense.

We would have wanted them to wait to convert whole office to Windows 8 Pro, but first service pack is out ya know.

Seems like combo of Office 13 and Windows 8/8.1 are at least prone to suffering these performance issues.  Thanks again
