How to get a pin on Google maps

When you do a search for Lavergne Smiles in Lavergne, TN in google, you'll get several listings as well as a map with a pin that specifies the location of the office.

I've got a client that has seen that and wants the same dynamic to happen when a user searches for their church.

How do I set things up so google displays the map when a search is done?

You can start here http://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter or you can create a google plus page (a business, not personal) but you end up at the same place.

If the business has been around for some time google may already have it in the db.  If that is the case, they may ask for verification by phone where they call you right away the the robot gives you a code.  This will make more sense when you add the business.  If it is new or you are not on record, they will send you a post card with the code.  It will take a couple of weeks.   Once you get the card, you will go back to the link and enter the verification code.

You should also make sure https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home is up to date as well for this domain.
