Excel reaches 4000 different styles / formats

Greetings,
The way I understand this problems is that when Excel reaches 4000 different styles / formats (due to multiple users copping and pasting data into a workbook / previous versions of Excel, it breaks the given workbook. Is it possible to do a select all on this book to standardize the styles / formats without breaking things further? I did find a possible MS fix it, however don’t want to exacerbate the situation, if it’s even approved in our environment

hi Ken,

I recommend making a copy of your workbook & then trying the Remove Styles addin which is mentioned on one of the MS KB pages (# 213904). I have successfully used this free addin to remove excess formats that were being created through copying SAP extracts from one excel instance to another. My issue was different from your current one but I think it will work for you, based on others' comments in the links.

The above addin is discussed briefly on this blog.

To use the add-in, I would save the file somewhere on your computer, open excel, press [alt + t + i], then Browse, choose the addin file, make sure the check box next to it is ticked & press [ok]. Open the copy of your file & click the “Remove Styles” button on the Home tab.
