MAC Office 2011 not opening files

I have a mac that cannot open .doc files but can open .docx files. Word 2011 is installed and using 14.3.9

it says that the type file was blocked. filename.doc uses a file type that is blocked from opening in this version.

I have another MAC with the same setup and it works.

Any clue?

I've read somewhere on a forum you can try to solve it by deleting the com.microsoft.word.plist file... Once deleted try opening the doc again.

the com.microsoft.word.plist can be found in the "hidden" library by opening Finder, click on Go in the top menu bar and click on the ALT (Option) button, the "hidden" library should be shown, the plist file can normally be found in the preference folder...

There's a com.microsoft.Excel.plist as well ... Might give that a try? Haven't come across this issue before though ... Good luck!
