"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The fact that you are getting the roles greyed out means either you have the service pack already installed, or an incomplete installation on the server. The service pack install would not normally show you the roles.

It sounds like someone may have attempted to install clustering at some point and as it isn't complete the server is now stuck.
This is the TechNet guide on removing the clustering services:

It will cause downtime.

Simon.
