Hi
First time i'm trying to setup ODBC connector to MySQL database, but not connecting.
I'm not sure what info should be placed in TCP/IP server, i tried using the Hostname or the admiun url but nothing worked.
If anyone can help with that or maybe something else is missing or need to be setup.
Thanks in advance !

First, have you set up a database in your hosting control panel?  Second, did you record the username, password, and connection info so you can use it to connect?  Third, did you set it up to allow external connections?  Fourth, what programming language are you using to connect and from where are you trying to connect?

1) i have a database hosting on Godday.

2) i can see on the control panel all my info, Hostname, admiun url, user name, and i have my password.

3) how do i setup to allow external connections, i know how to connect through php coding, and i did it, and it work. (i used mysqli_connect('ip address', 'user name', 'password');)

4) now i want to connect to ms access to be able to pull reports, so i want to create a dsn with "Data Sources (ODBC)" in the "Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools", but now i'm stuck, its not working.

You need to install the MySQL ODBC connector, it does not come with Windows.  You can find the different versions on this page: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/   Pick the one that matches your system (32/64 bit) and install it.  Then you can set up a DSN with the same credentials you used in PHP IF you have allowed external connections in the MySQL setup.  If the IP address starts with 10.x.x.x then you can't make an external connection to it because it is on Godaddy's internal private LAN.

When you set up a MySQL database on Godaddy, if you select version 5.0 in the setup, there is an option under Additional Options at the bottom to allow external connections.  If you select MySQL version 5.5, that option is not available.  Some hosting companies do not allow external connections to databases at all because it is considered a security risk.

You can't change it after it is setup.  They are actually on different servers, one refuses external access and one allows it.  You can only create a new database, export from the old one and import into the new one.
